Look Sharp, Feel Smart...

When students look good, they feel good and they are ready to learn. That is the
premise of the first tier of this program. Applicants are screened using the federal
poverty guidelines and in 2009  less than 1% did not qualify. The program provides
each student with a new outfit for back-to-school. The outfit consist of a pair of
pants, a shirt, socks, and underclothes. They also receive two weeks worth of gently
used clothes donated by the citizens of Madison County. The goal is for students to
begin the year feeling included regardless of their parents financial situation.

The second tier of the program provides the students with school supplies. Studies
have shown students are less likely to thrive in the classroom when they are not
prepared. For this part of the program, parents bring their children's school supply
list and CCYR fills the order. Back-to-school can be very stressful on families trying
to make it day-to-day. With gas and food prices going up, it is almost impossible for
our clients to save. Look Sharp, Feel Smart helps to relieve the financial burden of
the new school year. Parents do not have to take drastic measures (title loans, cash
advance services, etc.) or illegal actions to provide for their children.

In 2009 the program helped more than 300 families and 594 students.

Any assistance to reduce program expenses is appreciated. Money is not the only
way to contribute. We will gladly accept donations of clothes and
school supplies.
The program will run from July 5 - August 13, 2010. We are preparing for over 700
students in 2010.
